The aircraft, which had departed Ahmedabad for London, crashed into a residential locality in Meghaninagar, near the Ahmedabad airport, at approximately 1:45 PM on Thursday. On board were 242 individuals, comprising 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and 2 pilots.
Among those on the flight were 53 British nationals, 169 Indians, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Among the deceased was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was travelling to London to visit his daughter.
The victims also include Ranjitha Gopakumar, a nurse from Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, working in the UK. Reports indicate another Malayali passenger may have also perished, though details remain unconfirmed.
The incident marks the second-deadliest aviation disaster in India's history. The aircraft reportedly plummeted onto the BJ Medical College hostel, resulting in the deaths of five medical students, adding to the scale of the tragedy.
