AHMEDABAD: Amid widespread reports that no one survived the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, a surprising development has emerged. A man named Ramesh Vishwashkumar (38) has reportedly miraculously survived the accident. Ramesh claimed he made a daring escape by jumping out of the plane's emergency exit mere moments before it crashed. Visuals of him walking away from the wreckage have surfaced on social media, sparking widespread attention. He said he was occupying seat 11A during the flight.
Earlier reports had confirmed that there were no survivors among the passengers and crew.
Ramesh, a British national of Indian descent, had travelled to India to visit his relatives. He is currently undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM on Thursday, en route to London. Just five minutes after takeoff, the aircraft crash-landed into the hostel of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad. Initial confirmation stated that all 242 people onboard had died in the accident.
The flight was carrying 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and 2 pilots. Among them were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Moments after takeoff, the aircraft crashed and burst into flames.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), it is suspected that bird strikes in both engines may have caused the crash. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one of the most advanced commercial aircraft currently in service.
