NILAMBUR: MV Govindan said that CPM will not interfere in the inspection of the vehicle of Congress leaders Shafi Parambil and Rahul Mamkootathil by election officials in Nilambur, where the by-election campaign is underway. MV Govindan told the media that the action of Shafi and Rahul, who threatened the officials who did their duty, was douchey. When Congress leaders alleged that the vehicle inspection was intended to humiliate them, CPM leaders argued that this was a normal election procedure.
MV Govindan said that the Election Commission is doing its job and that the LDF will not interfere in the vehicle inspection. "We are not kings. The vehicles of LDF members have also been inspected. Let them be inspected too. We have no problem with it. The inspection was carried out as part of the Election Commission's duty. Many inspections have been carried out as part of that, so what is surprising about it?" Govindan added. He criticized the UDF for creating unnecessary controversies on the issue.
Shafi Parambil and Rahul Mamkootathil alleged that the police's aim was to humiliate them. A video of Shafi Parambil telling the police that they were not MLAs and MPs who mushroomed up one day had gone viral. UDF leaders responded that there was a political motive and a conspiracy behind the inspection. However, election officials say that only a routine inspection was carried out. Officials clarified that vehicles, including those of MPs Abdul Wahab, K Radhakrishnan and Congress leader M Liju, were also inspected.
