NEW DELHI: The evacuation of Indians from Israel has begun under Operation Sindhu amid the ongoing conflict. The first batch of 161 passengers, who arrived in Jordan's capital Amman by road from Israel, landed in Delhi last night. Two flights carrying passengers, including Malayalis, arrived from Iran yesterday.
More Indians stranded in Israel due to the conflict will be evacuated in the coming days. Since Israel's airspace is closed, the plan is to take them by road to Jordan and Egypt and then fly them to Delhi from there. Those crossing the border by road will be subject to checks. Indians have been asked to register with the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv and obtain a permit for this.
A Mahan Air flight carrying 280 Indians, including two Malayalis, from Mashhad, Iran, arrived in Delhi at 7:30 pm yesterday as part of Operation Sindhu. There are also more than 200 students from Jammu and Kashmir.
The Malayalis are Rasheed Muthirakka Tharammel, a native of Kozhikode Eranhikkal, and Mohammed Imtiaz Chakkalaikal, a native of Tirur, Malappuram. Both had arrived in Tehran for work-related purposes. Rasheed left for Kannur on a 9.40 pm flight last night. Mohammed Imtiaz will leave for Kochi on a flight early this morning. Yesterday's second flight from Iran landed in Delhi just after 1 am. A special flight from Mashhad carrying 285 Indian citizens had arrived in New Delhi at 11.30 pm on the 22nd.
