Shutters of Mullaperiyar dam likely to be opened tomorrow; people living in nearby areas will be relocated, says District Collector

IDUKKI: The Idukki district administration has warned that the Mullaperiyar dam is likely to be opened tomorrow due to heavy rain in the region. District Collector Vighneshwari said that all necessary preparations have been made to handle any emergency situation. She also urged the public to strictly follow the instructions given by the authorities.

As of 4 PM on Friday, the water level in the dam stood at 135.25 feet. In anticipation of water being released from the dam, the Collector has ordered the relocation of 3,220 people from 883 families living in nearby areas. Instructions were given to complete the evacuation to relief camps by 8 PM tonight.
