THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that widespread rain is possible in the state for the next five days. Low pressure and cyclonic circulation pose a threat. A low pressure has formed over Saurashtra-Kutch and the adjoining northeast Arabian Sea. A cyclone circulation has formed over southwest Bangladesh and the Gangetic West Bengal. The IMD has clarified that there is a possibility of strengthening as a low pressure over the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal in the next 48 hours. For these reasons, the IMD has informed that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days.
The IMD has informed that strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph are possible in isolated places in Kerala today. The IMD has also clarified that fishing should not be done on the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today due to the possibility of heavy rain.
An orange alert has been issued for seven districts due to the possibility of very heavy rain. The orange alert is for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad. The IMD means that very heavy rain will fall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD means that heavy rain will fall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. The Meteorological Department also said that rain with thunder is expected.
