KOCHI: CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan stated that some individuals are now attempting to exaggerate a minor issue in the state's healthcare sector. Speaking to the media in Kochi, he stated that Kerala's healthcare system is of international standards. He was criticising Dr. Haris, the head of the Urology Department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, who brought the crisis at the hospital to public attention.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world praised Kerala’s public health movement. What can be said about the mindset that exaggerates a minor issue within such a system? And then to conduct protests based on that? A peculiar mindset is being displayed here. Kerala is a notable state in the modern healthcare sector globally. While even America was shaken during the COVID crisis, Kerala faced the challenges with confidence. Now, the UDF wants to portray that Kerala's public health system has collapsed. Such efforts must be resisted. Instead of acknowledging the good things happening in Kerala, they are choosing to criticise," Govindan said.
A few days ago, Dr. Haris came forward with allegations that surgeries were being disrupted at the Medical College due to the lack of equipment. In response, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also indirectly criticised the doctor.
“No one is saying the person mentioned in the report related to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is a wrongdoer. He is someone known for his dedication, integrity, and sincerity. However, it is unfortunate that such a person has ended up portraying India’s finest healthcare system in a negative light. Whether he intended to do so or not, I do not know. But this must serve as a lesson for us,” the Chief Minister said.
