THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in various districts in view of the possibility of very heavy rain in the state. Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert. The IMD defines very heavy rain as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rainfall as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours. Rainfall accompanied by thundershowers is expected.
A cyclonic circulation is located over South Jharkhand. Due to this, widespread rainfall is likely in Kerala for the next five days. The IMD has stated that isolated very heavy rainfall is likely today and isolated heavy rainfall is likely till July 5. There is also a possibility of strong winds with a maximum speed of 40 to 50 kmph.
