THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sasidharan was discharged from the hospital thanks to Kerala Kaumudi. He was worried about how to pay for the treatment as he could not withdraw his deposit from the corrupt Nemom Cooperative Bank.

Cooperative Minister VN Vasavan, who took notice of the news, intervened in the issue. One lakh rupees was brought to the hospital on Saturday from the Pravachambalam Farmers Bank, where Sasidharan had a deposit of 6.5 lakhs. CPM Pravachambalam local committee secretary Jiju brought the amount to the hospital by noon.

The 72-year-old was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram last week after suffering a stroke. Sasidharan, a resident of Pravachambalam Netaji Nagar, had a deposit of Rs 14 lakh in Nemom Service Cooperative Bank. The minister has directed the Joint Registrar of the Cooperative Department to investigate the irregularities in the bank and immediately provide the money to Sasidharan. The bank should take steps to pay the money after talking to the board of directors.

Sasidharan had to pay Rs 85,000 at the hospital. When he was admitted, his wife Ramadevi's relative was the one who paid the bill. Sasidharan, a member of the CPM for more than half a century, is also an area committee member of the Karshaka Sangham. He was an assistant engineer in the Film Development Corporation. When he retired in 2010, he deposited the money he received in Nemom Cooperative Bank. The irregularities in the bank came to light last year.

My thanks to Kerala Kaumudi for presenting my situation and to Minister Vasavan for immediately intervening
