KOLLAM: The headmistress of Thevalakkara Boys Higher Secondary School has been suspended in connection with the electrocution death of a Class 8 student. The school's manager issued the suspension order against S. Suja, citing lapses in maintaining student safety. Senior teacher G. Molly has been entrusted with the duties of headmistress following the suspension.

Meanwhile, KSEB has handed over financial assistance to Mithun's family. The KSEB Chief Engineer and Deputy Chief Engineer visited the family and handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh. The cheque was issued in the name of Mithun’s mother, Suja, and was received jointly by Mithun’s father Manu and younger brother Sujin.

Earlier, ministers had visited Thevalakkara Boys HSS following the incident. After visiting the school, they also went to Mithun’s house. Education Minister V. Sivankutty and Minister K. N. Balagopal met with Mithun’s father and assured the family of the government’s support. Minister Sivankutty had earlier demanded the suspension of the headmistress over Mithun’s death. A show-cause notice was also issued to the school management, asking for an explanation within three days. The minister shared these updates at a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram.
