Many public sector undertakings, which are often operating at a loss, can increase their income by implementing various ideas. The efforts of KSRTC, which is looking for ways to do so through various methods, should be encouraged. The travel card they recently launched has been a great success. The travel card launched by KSRTC to make travel more convenient and avoid petty problems and disputes related to coins has been welcomed by passengers. Within days of the card system being launched, more than one lakh people have acquired it. About five lakh cards will be delivered soon. Through this, KSRTC will get money for trips in advance. Moreover, not only the person who buys the card, but anyone can use it as long as there is a balance in it.
73,281 students have also applied for the smart online card. The final preparations are underway to bring it to students in the form of a smart card, like a travel card. Similarly, one lakh twenty thousand people have already downloaded the KSRTC's Chalo app, which helps in knowing the travel location. Passengers can travel using the travel card even if they do not have money. The card costs Rs 100. It can be recharged and used again. The validity of the card is one year. The card can be charged for a minimum of Rs 50 and a maximum of Rs 3000. If passengers charge Rs 1000 on the card, they will get an additional credit of Rs 40 and if they charge Rs 2000, they will get an additional credit of Rs 100. In that way, the card is profitable for passengers.
Similarly, the electric bus service that tours the city of Thiruvananthapuram in an open double-decker bus has also been a huge success. With the increase in the number of passengers, the fare has been increased to Rs 200 from Rs 100. Yet there is no shortage of online bookings. The bus service that travels through East Fort, Secretariat, Legislative Assembly, Museum, Shankumugham, Lulu Mall, and Padmanabhaswamy Temple has now become very popular. This bus has 65 seats on both floors. The ticket price on the lower floor is still Rs 100. Electric open double-decker services are available every day from 3 pm to 10 pm at hourly intervals.
Apart from this, the services started by KSRTC to tourist destinations are also a hit. In this, KSRTC's Gavi trips have become very popular. In a short period of time, KSRTC has conducted more than a thousand trips to Gavi. Those coming from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Ernakulam areas are taken to Pathanamthitta and taken to Gavi by bus the next day. With the opening of Gavi, KSRTC has posted the details of Gavi trips from all units on Facebook.
KSRTC has created a huge revolution in the field of budget tourism in a very short time. If KSRTC moves forward with such diverse ideas, it cannot be said that KSRTC will not become the most profitable public sector undertaking tomorrow. We can wish that it happens by complimenting KSRTC for turning to such diverse ideas.
