NEW DELHI: A major breakthrough has been made in the death case of 36-year-old Karan Dev from Om Vihar, Delhi. What was first believed to be an accidental electrocution has now been confirmed as a planned murder by his wife and her lover.
On July 13, Karan’s wife, Susmita, rushed him to Mata Roop Rani Maggo Hospital, claiming he had suffered an electric shock from an extension cord. Despite efforts by doctors, Karan could not be saved. The family initially refused a postmortem, thinking it was a tragic accident.
However, due to Karan’s young age and the suspicious circumstances, police insisted on further investigation. The preliminary postmortem confirmed death by electrocution, but doctors also found sleeping pills in his stomach. This discovery raised serious doubts.
Karan’s younger brother then approached the police with a statement, suspecting Susmita and a relative named Rahul, with whom she was allegedly having an affair. He also provided police with Instagram chats between the two, which revealed a plot to kill Karan.
According to investigators, Susmita and Rahul gave Karan 15 sleeping pills during dinner, which knocked him unconscious. Since he was still alive, they allegedly used an electric shock to make it appear as an accident.
Susmita and Karan had been married for six years and had a six-year-old son. A year ago, she reportedly began an affair with Rahul, who lived in the same building.
