THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will distribute the Onam Kit with 15 essential items to six lakh families (yellow card holders) in the state for free. The kit will contain half a litre of coconut oil, half a kilo of sugar, chickpea dal, semiya payasam mix, Milma ghee, cashew nuts, sambar powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, tea leaves, chickpeas, fenugreek seeds, powdered sugar, and a cloth bag.
Blue card holders will be given 10 kg of rice and white card holders 15 kg at Rs 10.90. 53 lakh families will benefit from the scheme. 94 lakh cardholders will be given 10 kg of K rice at Rs 25. This rice is currently being given to cardholders at Rs 29.
Supplyco will hold an Onam market across the state. This time, in addition to Thiruvananthapuram, a mega fair will also be held in Palakkad. Kerala is providing rice at a lower price on its own in the wake of the central government's refusal to supply rice to the state during the festival period. The central government denied a subsidy, stating that the people of Kerala are capable enough to buy rice at the normal rate.
