KOZHIKODE: The Youth Congress is continuing its strong protest in Perambra today following the incident in which a young man died the other day after being hit by a private bus. Youth Congress workers, who blocked a limited-stop private bus that departed from Kuttiady to Kozhikode in the morning, demanded that private buses should not be allowed to operate on this route.

The protestors stated that the excessive speed of private buses and frequent fatal accidents have become a threat to passengers’ lives, and hence they have decided to block the vehicles. They removed the passengers from the bus and demanded that KSRTC services should be operated on the route instead.

Police arrived at the scene and are removing the protestors. The activists pointed out that KSRTC services used to operate sufficiently on this route in the past, but have since been stopped. A 19-year-old student named Jawad had died the other day after a private bus hit him. The private bus travelling to Kozhikode was trying to overtake another bus when it hit his two-wheeler, causing him to fall under the bus and die.

Following the incident, youth organisations had declared that they would block private buses if they operated on this route. Subsequently, buses were blocked. Those taken into custody during the protest were later released after protestors blocked the police vehicle and placed a wreath in front of it. Even today, the protestors continue to block buses on this route.
