Thiruvananthapuram turns into sea of comrades; VS Achuthanandan's mortal remains brought to AKG centre

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of the former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, who passed away due to age-related illness in Thiruvananthapuram, was brought to AKG Centre, the headquarters of the CPM, for public viewing. Thousands of supporters swarmed the area to pay their last respects to the veteran political leader.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan reached the headquarters and is at the forefront among other leaders, taking part in the mourning. M A Baby, the current General Secretary of the Communist Party of India, covered the mortal remains with the red revolutionary flag of the CPM.

Security has been beefed up in the area, keeping an eye on the gigantic crowd at the premises.

Communist leader and former chief minister V S Achuthanandan passed away at 3.20 pm today at the SUT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. He was 101. His close relatives, including his wife and children, were present with him at the time of his death.
