MUMBAI: A tragic incident occurred in Mumbai on Wednesday evening when a four‑year‑old girl fell from the 12th floor of an apartment building. The victim has been identified as Anvika Prajapati.

The mishap took place around 8 p.m. while Anvika’s mother was getting ready to step out. Police said the mother had placed the girl on a shoe rack near the entrance to lock the house. In those few moments, the child is believed to have climbed toward the window and accidentally plunged down.

CCTV footage from the building shows the mother and child leaving the house. The mother can be seen lifting Anvika onto the shoe rack before locking the door. Moments later, while the mother was putting on her shoes, the child fell to the ground.

Hearing the mother’s screams, neighbours rushed to help and took the child to a nearby hospital in West Vashi. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her life. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
