Actress Maala Parvathi has said that actor Baburaj, currently facing allegations, should have stepped aside from the office-bearer elections of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). She added that Mohanlal’s decision to resign as AMMA president was prompted by Baburaj’s refusal to step aside despite the controversy. Parvathi noted that in earlier instances, actors such as Siddique, Dileep, and Vijay Babu had stepped down when confronted with similar accusations.
Parvathi further remarked that several candidates contesting in the current AMMA elections lack acceptance among a majority of the members. “Although Jagadish enjoys popularity with the public, he is someone who changed his stance after projecting himself as someone who supported the association during a crisis. As per my knowledge, many within AMMA are aware of this and are campaigning against him,” she said.
“Jagadish had earlier spoken out against AMMA when an issue arose, which gave him a heroic image among the public. But AMMA’s members have a different view. During the controversy involving Siddique sir, the leadership was prepared to hold a press conference, but Jagadish advised against addressing the media. Trusting his judgment, they refrained from speaking. Two days later, however, he suddenly criticised them, asking why they were silent. This triggered the crisis,” she said.
According to Parvathi, a significant section of AMMA members familiar with these incidents is now actively opposing Jagadish’s candidature in the ongoing elections.
