Metro rail systems offer major relief in cities facing severe traffic congestion. In a city like Bengaluru, which struggles with heavy traffic, daily life would be difficult without the metro. Around 10 lakh passengers use the Namma Metro service of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited every day. The metro helps people reach offices, schools, colleges and other important places on time.

Namma Metro, which focuses on providing fast and modern travel, is now planning a new change. Passengers in Bengaluru may soon be allowed to carry alcohol bottles on the metro. However, the bottles will have to be sealed and properly packed. The BMRCL has held several discussions on the matter and has given in-principle approval.

However, this facility will not be available on all metro lines. Currently, carrying alcohol is allowed on the Airport Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Similarly, permission to carry alcohol on Namma Metro may be granted when the metro connects to the airport. The reason is that alcohol is sold at duty-free shops at airports and many international passengers travel with sealed bottles. Meanwhile, it may take at least two more years for the Bengaluru Metro to be connected to the airport.
