'Grabbed me by hair, faced many tortures': Daughter-in-law Soumya responds about viral video

PATHANAMTHITTA: A grim video of an elderly man getting roughed up by his son and daughter-in-law was doing the rounds on social media in Kerala for the last few days. With the video drawing sharp criticism for the brute treatment meted out to the elderly, the daughter-in-law, Soumya, came forward to explain her side of the story. Thankappan, a native of Adoor, was beaten by his son Siju and daughter-in-law Soumya.

Soumya:

“Whenever drunk, my father-in-law harasses me in front of my mother. He often grabs me by my hair and drags me around on the floor. He started beating me even one month after my marriage. If sober, he behaves nicely. Till this time, I used to endure his torture, but on that day, I had had enough and decided to respond.”

Last week, a video titled 'Father beaten by son and daughter-in-law' went viral on social media. Based on the complaint, the Adoor police registered a case and arrested the couple. Thankappan later went to court and said he had no complaints, which helped the couple come out on bail.
