NEW DELHI: The FIR filed in the case of the arrest of two Malayali nuns at Durg in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking, has surfaced. Serious charges have been imposed in the FIR. The FIR alleged forced conversion and human trafficking. Sister Preethi is the first accused and Sister Vandana, the second accused. The FIR said that the nuns intended forced conversion and human trafficking.

The nuns working at Fatima Hospital in Agra, were arrested when they went to pick three girls who came to work as domestic maids in their convent. The brother of one of the girls had also arrived at the station. Bajrang Dal activists stopped the nuns and informed the police, accusing them of forced conversion and human trafficking.

They also alleged that one of the girls did not come on her own. They have been remanded in judicial custody and are presently in Durg jail.

Meantime, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) has written a letter to the Prime Minister alleging that the nuns were arrested as a result of pressure from Hindutva organizations. They have also asked the BJP government in Chhattisgarh to take a stand for the protection of the rights of minorities. Kerala Congress (M) Chairman Jose K Mani MP has written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking all legal assistance for the release of the nuns.
