Major accident in front of General Hospital, learner hits accelerator instead of brake, four in critical condition

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five sustained injuries after a car rammed into the footpath. The condition of four is stated to be very critical. The accident happened in front of the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. The car rammed into the footpath after hitting an auto and a car halted there. Two of the injured are auto drivers and two are pedestrians. Another auto driver sustained minor injuries.


The car was driven by Vishnunath of Vattiyoorkavu. He has a driving license and the incident happened when he was learning driving. Vishnunath and his relative were in the car. The police have taken them into custody. Initial reports said the accident happened when the youth pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

The injured has been admitted to the medical college hospital. RTO Ajith Kumar said the vehicle did not have any technical fault. He said the youth’s license will be examined.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon. The Thiruvananthapuram RTO issued him the license in 2019. Transport Commissioner was inside the hospital when the incident happened. The Cantonment Police are collecting the CCTV clippings of the accident. Vishnunath and his uncle have been subjected to a medical examination.
