Woman jumps into well with children, remanded after son dies

KANNUR: A woman has been remanded in connection with the death of her six-year-old son. The woman identified as P Dhanaja (30), wife of Dhanesh of Cheruthazham Shreestha, jumped into the well with her two children. Dhanesh's mother Shyamala (71), who was arrested for abetment to suicide, was released on bail by the court. Dhanaja was remanded by the Payyannur court.

The incident happened on July 30 at 12 noon. Dhanaja jumped into the well with her two children at her husband's house. Her son Dhyan Krishna died on Sunday while undergoing treatment. The police registered a case against Dhanaja on the same day. Dhanaja and her daughter Devika were undergoing treatment at the Kannur Government Medical College Hospital. Dhanaja's further treatment will be under the supervision of the prison officials. She has been presently shifted to Kannur Women's Jail.


Shyamala, her mother-in-law, was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide for physically and mentally abusing her daughter-in-law Dhanaja. She was later released on bail by the Payyannur court. A detailed police investigation into the incident is underway.
