'Actress I fell in love with even before entering film industry, director Kamal faced her mother's wrath'

Jayaram and Parvathy are a beloved star couple among Malayali audiences. Jayaram had said in many interviews that he fell in love with Parvathy even before entering the film industry. In an interview, he opened up about the challenges they faced during their early days of love.

"We had tried very hard not to let Parvathy's mother learn about our relationship. However, by the time we arrived at the location of Shubhayathra, her mother had found out everything. Although she allowed us to continue with the film, she was adamant that Parvathy should not spend even a second with me once the shoot was over. Back then, the only person who helped us was our close friend, director Kamal. Her mother was very angry with Kamal because of this.

Kamalikka acted as our go-between. My mother-in-law scolded him heavily for helping us. During the Shubhayathra shoot, I would plead with him, ‘Ikka, please, can you let me see Parvathy before the shooting ends? Otherwise, her mother will take her away from me.’ That’s when Kamal came up with a clever plan. Even though the shoot had officially ended, he got both of us into an Omni car under the pretext of filming a scene and asked us to go for a drive and return. Unfortunately, Parvathy’s mother soon found out. Poor Kamalikka got a lot of scolding that day because of us,” Jayaram recalled.
