THRISSUR: An elephant that had arrived at the temple for Aanayoottu (feeding of elephants) went berserk. The incident took place this morning at the Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam temple in Thrissur. Eleven elephants had arrived for Aanayoottu. While returning from Aanayoottu, an elephant named Kolakkadan Kuttikrishnan tried to attack another elephant named Ambadi Mahadevan when they reached the nada of the Kottilakkal Ganapathi Temple.
The remaining elephants were quickly removed from the spot, thus avoiding a major calamity. No serious injury was reported. The elephant was tamed by the mahouts themselves. The devotees who had gathered ran for their lives when the elephant went berserk. The mahouts and others barely escaped being trampled by the elephant. It was the timely intervention of the mahouts that led to the fast taming of the elephants.
