THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of rain in Kerala over the next five days. There is a chance of a low-pressure system forming again in the Bay of Bengal, which may develop into a new low-pressure area near the Odisha-West Bengal coast by August 25. This system is expected to bring rainfall to Kerala. Light to moderate rain is expected, with isolated heavy rain possible on August 26 and 27. The IMD has issued yellow alerts for several districts.

Yellow alert:

26/08/2025: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

27/08/2025: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

The yellow alert indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rain, which means rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

Advisory for fishermen:

  • The IMD has advised fishermen not to go fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts on August 26 and 27.
  • During this period, strong winds of 40–50 km/h, and in some places up to 60 km/h, along with rough sea conditions, are expected along these coasts.
