MUMBAI: A man murdered his wife by setting her ablaze over suspicion of her having an extramarital affair. The shocking incident took place in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Jagrani. Although her husband, Rajkumar Ramshiroamani Sahu, initially claimed that Jagrani had died by suicide, the statement of their 7-year-old daughter became the turning point in the case.
The incident took place on the morning of August 25. According to the police, Rajkumar tied his wife's hands and legs, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital. Based on Rajkumar's statement- that Jagrani locked herself in a room and set herself on fire- the police had first registered the case as a suicide. However, further investigation revealed that Rajkumar's claim was false.
The autopsy report, along with the daughter’s testimony, proved crucial in exposing the crime. The daughter told the police that she saw her father setting her mother on fire. Subsequently, Rajkumar was arrested on August 26.
