Vetrimaaran, the national award-winning Avant-garde filmmaker, is not a stranger in Kerala. Cine enthusiasts in the southern state revere him for his liberal politics and his craft. Apart from being a quality filmmaker, Vetrimaaran is also a producer who finances experimental movies. Films like Kakkamutte, Kodi, and Lens were produced by Vetrimaaran's production company, Grass Root Film Company. Now, in a press conference, Vetrimaaran announced that he would soon shut down his production house.

'Bad Girl', directed by Varsha Bharat, is currently being produced by Vetrimaaran's production company Grassroot Films. According to Vetrimaaran, it will be his last production. He added that the controversies surrounding Bad Girl and the previous film Manushi, as well as the disputes with the censor board, led to the decision.

“Being a producer, I have to be more careful. Every comment about the teaser and trailer has to be approached with caution. The pressure on the producer is high as all these factors affect the film's revenue. 'Manushi' is now in court. A court order has been issued. In the case of Bad Girl, the film also needs to undergo the review committee's examination to get a U/A certificate. There have been many rumours about it since the teaser of Bad Girl was released. Being a producer puts me through more challenges. It has taken a toll on me. Grassroots Film Company will shut down operations after Bad Girl," said Vetrimaaran.
