THRISSUR: DIG Harishankar has submitted a report to the DGP on the incident of the Kunnamkulam police attacking a youth congress leader, for no reason. The report mentioned that further action may be taken after the court order. The report said there is only a charge of attacking the youth with hand. The report states that action was taken on the same day the complaint was filed, the increment of the four officers for two years was cancelled, and action including transfer was taken. Action has been taken against sub inspector Nuhman, CPOs Saseendran, Sandeep and Sajeevan.
Kunnamkulam youth congress president Sujith was subjected to brutal harassment. The incident happened on April 5, 2023. Sujith had asked the police when they threatened his friends standing on the roadside. Nuhman, who did not like this, took Sujith to the station and brutally harassed him.
Sujith responded to the media on the incident. ‘The children of his hometown were sitting in the club for a program. The police came there then. The children called me. The policemen spoke badly. I asked why they were speaking badly. They asked who I was. I said I am a public servant. They then tore my shirt. They took me to the station in their jeep. They took me to a place where there was no CCTV and attacked me,’ said Sujith.
The Chavakkad Magistrate Court granted bail to Sujith after finding him not drunk during a medical examination. An examination conducted as per the court's directive found Sujith suffering a hearing loss.
