NEW DELHI: The Election Commission termed the allegations levelled by Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, as baseless. The commission has clarified in a statement that none from the public can remove their votes online, as misunderstood by Rahul.

A person cannot remove their vote without being heard. However, in 2023, there were some unsuccessful attempts to remove votes in the Aland assembly constituency of Karnataka. Officials also informed that the Election Commission itself had filed an FIR to investigate the matter.

Rahul Gandhi levelled serious allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner was protecting those destroying the Indian democracy and there was strong evidence for this.

Some had tried to remove 6018 voters in Karnataka. The person who did this was caught unexpectedly. An attempt was made to remove the names in Aland constituency by impersonating them. The election applications were submitted online without the knowledge of the real person and the fraud was done through mobile numbers outside Karnataka. This targeted the Congress. Rahul had also alleged that 12 votes were removed by logging in falsely in the name of Alandil Godabai.

Rahul also displayed the mobile numbers used to remove the votes at the press meet convened. He had said that none of these were from Karnataka and were from many other states.
