WASHINGTON: The remarks of Texas Republic Party leader on the Hanuman statue unveiled in the US city of Texas is under fire. The remarks of Republican Alexander Duncan on the 90-foot-statue of Hanuman known as the 'Statue of Union' located at Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple in the town of Sugar Land, Texas, has sparked a controversy. Alexander had also opposed the construction of the statue.

'Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a Christian nation,' Donald Trump's Republican Party leader wrote on X along with the video of the statue. In another post, he quoted the Bible and said, 'You must not have any other God but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.' The ‘Statue of Union’ was unveiled by Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji in 2024 and is the third tallest statue in the US.

Duncan’s remarks received backlash on social media. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has criticized the remarks as ‘anti-Hindu and inflammatory’. The organization demanded the Republican Party of Texas to take action on the issue. Several people reminded the Republican leader that the US Constitution gives them the freedom to practices any religion.
