Like Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Dileep, many actors in the Malayalam film industry actively participate in charitable activities. Some believe that what is given with one hand should not be known to the other. In this spirit, actor Niyas Backer recently revealed on Facebook that Shivaji Guruvayur, a familiar face to Malayalis through numerous films, adopted two elderly people and donated four cents of land for their use.
Niyas Backer’s Facebook Post:
Shivaji Guruvayur, the actor who surprised me.
I attended the Metro Links Onam Celebration in Guruvayur on Saturday, 27th September 2025, as a guest after being invited by Shivaji Chettan. Jayadev Kalavoor, whom I consider like my younger brother, was also there. After the official programs, we presented a small comedy program for the audience there. The Metro Links members gave us a warm and grand welcome. But what truly amazed me was something else- Shivaji Guruvayur’s humanity. The same actor who impressed us as the villainous politician in 'Arabikkatha' has a heart of gold.
During his speech, the person who delivered the welcome speech shared a story about how Shivaji Chettan adopted two elderly people whom he knew.
An aged man who had lived abroad had lost everything due to life circumstances. He and his wife were forced to live on the streets with no one to help them. Shivaji chettan took the couple into his home and even allocated four cents of his own land for their use.
During the speech, I asked a friend sitting nearby, 'Shivaji chettan must be financially well-off, right?'
The answer was surprising: 'No, he does not have significant wealth. He is a simple man who shares whatever little he has.'
I also asked Shivaji Chettan about this privately, and he smiled and said, 'Brother, I just did what I could. Who knows what our situation will be tomorrow?'
He concluded with a single statement: 'I’m not alone in this—Metro Links family and many friends are with them.'
I was deeply moved. The same actor who once angered me on screen in Arabikkatha is now teaching us life lessons through his actions. Truly, people like Shivaji Guruvayur are the ones we should really be fans of.
A big salute to my dear Shivaji Chettan and Metro Links. Full of love.
