KASARAGOD: A school teacher and her husband died after consuming poison in Kadambar, Manjeswaram. Ajith (35), a painter, and Shwetha (27), a teacher in a private school in Vorkady Bakery Junction, died in the incident. Both consumed poison yesterday in the early hours and died in a hospital in Deralakatte this morning while undergoing treatment.

Ajith and Shwetha, after returning home from work on Monday, went to his sister's house in Bandiyod with their three-year-old son. The couple asked the family to babysit their son, as they had to visit a place immediately. After returning home, the couple consumed poison.

Neighbours found them lying in the courtyard of their house in the wee hours of the morning. They were rushed to the hospital, but Ajith died at around 12:30 midnight. Shwetha also succumbed to death later. Financial obligations are said to have made the couple take the drastic decision to end their lives. Manjeswaram police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
