THRISSUR: Gokul, the tusker from Guruvayoor Anakotta( elephant camp), died on Monday. It was AS Raghunathan of Chullickal Araykal House, Ernakulam, on January 9, 1994, who sponsored the elephant to the Guruvayur temple.

Gokul, who was seriously injured after being gored by an elephant named Peethambaran during a festival in Koyilandy last February, was caught in fatigue ever since and was undergoing treatment.

The tusker was showing signs of recuperating from the injury when death came unannounced. Guruvayur Gokul was given the ‘Gajaveeran’ title and is one among the many tuskers in Kerala with a massive fan base. The Devaswom paid last respects to the tusker giant. Devaswom Chairman Dr VK Vijayan offered a wreath. Devaswom Administrative Committee Member C Manoj, Jeevadhanam Deputy Administrator M Radha, and Assistant Manager Sundarraj were present.
