NEW DELHI: India defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the second test in Delhi. The team led by Gill completed the chase of the 121 target set by the West Indies, with the loss of just three wickets. KL Rahul scored 58 runs off 108 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours. With this win, India won the two-match series 2-0. This is Shubman Gill’s first major trophy as a captain.
Sai Sudarshan, who scored 39 runs off 76 balls, was dismissed in the first session of the final day. Sudarshan was dismissed by West Indies captain Roston Chase. Captain Shubman Gill, who hit a six and a four, was dismissed for 13 runs. He was caught by Justin Greaves off Roston Chase. India reached the winning runs in 35 overs.
India, who were forced to follow on, were all out for 390 runs on the fourth day, and set a target of 121 runs to win. The first innings of the West Indies ended for 248 runs against India, who had declared their first innings at 518/5. With this, India forced the West Indies to follow on.
On the third day, the West Indies, who were at 173/2, were saved from defeat by centuries from opener John Campbell (115) and middle-order batsman Shai Hope (103), an unbeaten half-century from Justin Greaves (50*), 40 runs from captain Roston Chase and 32 runs from Jayden Seals.
Campbell is the first West Indies opener to score a Test century on Indian soil since Wavell Hinds at Eden Gardens in 2002. The previous West Indies opener to score a century against India was Darren Ganga.
