Google's announcement that it will build a huge AI data centre in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 1.34 lakh crore over the next five years will be a great achievement for India. This announcement will provide more energy to the IT and tech sectors in India. The Google Artificial Intelligence Hub will be launched in collaboration with Adani ConneX under Adani Enterprises and Bharti Airtel. At a ceremony held in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and others, Google company officials signed a memorandum of understanding with the relevant Indian authorities.
Google Cloud CEO and Malayali Thomas Kurien, who attended the event, clarified that this will be Google's largest AI hub outside the United States. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, a Tamilian, shared the details of the AI hub with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone. The operation of this new data centre will require one gigawatt of power. Modern energy generation systems for this will also be prepared as part of the AI hub. This move by Google, which comes after the US President announced strict restrictions and high fees for granting US visas to foreigners, including Indians, gives great hope to thousands of Indians working in the IT field.
This announcement sends the message that "You don't have to go to America for a better job; big companies there are preparing to come here." The investment will also boost India's employment sector. This huge AI data centre to be built in Visakhapatnam will directly and indirectly provide jobs and stable income to about one lakh people. There is no doubt that more multinational companies will be ready to invest in India with the arrival of Google. However, the threat of Trump's tariff hike looms as a black shadow over the arrival of these investments. Trump has already imposed a 25 percent tax on Indian products. If this is increased further, it could adversely affect the arrival of foreign companies.
Meanwhile, economic experts generally believe that there will be no further tariff hikes as Trump's actions to maintain the United States as the world's number one through the tariff war have already caused setbacks in the economic sector and are having consequences, including price increases, in the United States itself. In any case, Google's huge investment announcement is likely to help shift global attention from China to India. There is no doubt that the new plan will pave the way for the global growth of India's digital economy.
