AMBALAPPUZHA: Former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's sister, Azhikutty (95), wife of the late Bhaskaran, passed away on Wednesday night. She breathed her last at her 'Venthalathara house', in Punnapra Panchayat.
When VS Achuthanandan's mortal remains were brought to his hometown in Alappuzha in July, Azhikutty was lying in her bed, emotionless, just one kilometre away from the public viewing site. When the elder brother’s death news was brought to her by close relatives. Azhikutty could not comprehend anything as she had by then totally succumbed to her ailments, but not fully.
Azhikutty always fondly addressed V S Achuthanandan as ‘Annan’, and it was known that the former chief minister never missed the custom of spending Thiruvonam day with his sister. VS would present her with a new set of clothes and would have the Onam feast together.
Since the day V S Achuthanadan disconnected himself from public life following health ailments, Azhikutty would make sure to enquire about his health with a mandatory call to Thiruvananthapuram residence every night.
The final rites will be held today in the house compound. Children: Thankamani, late Susheela. Sons-in-law: Parameswaran, Vishwambharan. Other brothers: late V.S. Gangadharan, V.S. Purushan.
