THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Change in rain warning in Kerala. An orange alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts. The possibility of very heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated places. The Central Meteorological Department defines Very Heavy Rainfall as the rainfall that will reach 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
A yellow alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts today. Isolated heavy rain is expected. The Central Meteorological Department defines heavy rain (ISOL H) as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected.
Moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds gusting up to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts in the next three hours. Moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds gusting up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts. Light rain is also likely at isolated places in all other districts.
A low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep region has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area off the Kerala-Karnataka coast. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression in the next 36 hours.
The rains will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow and Yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad districts.
