KALPETTA: The construction of the township for the victims of the Wayanad landslides is progressing smoothly and accurately in Elston Estate without leaving any room for complaints. The quality of construction is being checked at each stage. Everything from the soil on site to the wire, cement and sand has been tested. The tests are being carried out in the on-site lab in the presence of KIIFCON, the project consultant.
The building is constructed on a framed structure consisting of plinth beams, roof beams and shear walls that can withstand any natural disaster. An upper floor can also be built in the future. Each house will have undergone 58 inspections upon completion.
Underground electricity supply
An underground electricity supply network is being prepared. Cable pits have been dug for this. Electricity will be supplied to houses, public buildings and street lights from the 110 kV sub-station being constructed in the township through an 11 kV line to the underground distribution network. Solar will also be ensured. Two kilowatt solar panels will be installed. Beneficiaries can generate income by giving the electricity remaining after use to KSEB. Drinking water supply will also be provided through cable ducts. The road in the township is 11.72 km long.
