Woman with lover’s help gets son killed for 40 lakh insurance money

KANPUR: A woman has been arrested for murdering her son to claim his insurance money. 47-year-old Mamta Devi, a widow, got her 22-year-old son Pradeep Sharma killed with the help of her lover.

The shocking incident happened at Angadpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. Mamta Devi got her son killed to claim his insurance money of Rs 40 lakh. Her son was killed with the help of her lover Mayank Katiyar (33) and his brother Rishi Katiyar (28).

Pradeep, who was working in Andhra Pradesh for five years, came home for Diwali. Mayank and Rishi took him out for dinner in a car on the night of October 26. They stopped the car at a deserted place and attacked him with a hammer killing him on the spot.

The two then disposed of his body on the highway making it appear as a road accident. The police have arrested the three.

Seeing the house locked, Pradeep’s relatives filed a police complaint. His body was found in an investigation conducted. The police started investigation after Pradeep’s grandfather and others grew suspicious. The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation.
