Prem Kumar is always a Left supporter, he was replaced as Chalachitra Academy Chairman as his term had ended: Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Saji Cherian said that actor Prem Kumar was replaced as the Chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy because his term had ended. The minister said that Prem Kumar was given due respect and that the decision to replace him was not connected to any dispute.

"It is the Academy's responsibility, not the government's, to inform about the change. There is nothing unusual in this matter. Prem Kumar has always been a supporter of the Left, and both the government and the party have given him proper recognition," the minister said.

Earlier, Prem Kumar said that he came to know about his removal only through the media. "I have worked sincerely and honestly in the Academy for the past three and a half years. When such a change happens, it should be officially communicated. The outgoing chairman should have been present while handing over the position. My successor is a globally renowned figure in world cinema- an Oscar-winning sound designer. It would have been an honour for me to hand over the post to him,” Prem Kumar told Kerala Kaumudi.

Recently, Oscar winner Resul Pookutty took charge as the new Chairman of the Chalachitra Academy, while Kuku Parameswaran became the Vice Chairperson. Resul Pookutty said it was a great honour to sit in a chair once occupied by such distinguished personalities.
