CHENNAI: The body of a 35-year-old woman, who had gone missing the other day, was found buried in a banana plantation in Erode, Tamil Nadu. Following this, the woman's 27-year-old boyfriend was arrested by the police. The deceased is Sonia, who worked as a beautician in Appakudal town. She had gone missing yesterday. The arrested person has been identified as Mohan Kumar. He owns the banana plantation where the body was found.

Sonia, who lost her husband two years ago, lived with her two children and mother. When she did not return home after work, her family filed a missing complaint. By tracing her phone call records, police identified Mohan Kumar as a suspect. During the investigation, Sonia’s body was found buried in his plantation.

According to police, Sonia met Mohan two years ago while working at a textile shop in Gopichettipalayam. They developed a relationship and often met at the plantation. Police said the murder happened after Sonia repeatedly asked Mohan to marry her, which led to a dispute.

Mohan had dug a pit in advance in his field and asked Sonia to come there around 8 p.m. He then attacked her with a stone, stabbed her in the neck with a knife, and buried her body. Later, he threw her phone and clothes into the nearby Bhavani canal. Mohan was also present when the police began searching the plantation the next day. After the arrest, he was produced in court and remanded. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
