‘Forced to eat Bhasmam, burnt body’; woman brutally beaten in husband’s house in name of evil practices

KOTTAYAM: A woman faced brutal harassment at her husband’s house in the name of evil practices. The incident happened at Thiruvanchoor in Kottayam. The practices were to drive away evil spirits from her body.

The woman was forced to consume liquor, made to smoke beedi and forced to eat bhasmam. Her body was burnt. The incident happened on November 2. The FIR registered in the Manarcaud police said the woman was locked in a room and subjected to brutal harassment from 11 am to 9 pm.

The police have arrested three people on the complaint of her family. The arrested are her husband Akhil, father-in-law Das and Sivadas, who performed the evil practices. Her mother-in-law is absconding.
