
NEW DELHI: The death toll is rising after the explosion near the Red Fort in the national capital. According to information available at 8 p.m., nine people have died in the blast that occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station. Around 25 people were injured, and reports say the condition of six of them is extremely critical. An official confirmation of the death toll is still awaited. The injured have been taken to LNJP Hospital. Delhi Police have confirmed that it was a powerful explosion.
The incident has caused panic in the area. The blast reportedly occurred in a car parked near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. The Delhi Fire Department said it was a major explosion and that three to four vehicles caught fire afterwards. Many people were reportedly in the area at the time, some in vehicles and some nearby.

The sound of the explosion was reportedly heard up to 1 km away from the Red Fort, according to eyewitnesses. The incident has led to a high alert being declared in Delhi, with neighbouring states also being put on notice. Authorities are working to contain the situation and provide assistance to those affected.
Several fire engines are carrying out rescue operations at the site. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sought information from the Delhi Police regarding the explosion. Traffic in the area has been restricted. Police say the blast has created widespread panic.
