KANNUR: CPM has announced its candidates for the Kannur district panchayat elections. Former district panchayat president PP Divya will not contest this time. PP Divya, who was accused in the suicide of Kannur ADM Naveen Babu, was earlier removed from the post of district panchayat president by the CPM. The denial of the seat follows that. PP Divya was elected to the district panchayat from the Kalliasseri division. PP Pavithran is the CPM candidate this time.
Meanwhile, former SFI state president K Anusree has made it to the list of candidates for the district panchayat and is contesting from the Pinarayi division. Navya Suresh, a second-year journalism student at Kannur University campus and SFI Peravoor area secretary, will be the candidate in the Peravoor division. Binoy Kurian, who is the district panchayat vice-president, will seek a verdict from Peralassery.
Of the 16 candidates from CPM, 15 are new faces except for Binoy Kurian. CPM Kannur district secretary KK Ragesh announced the candidates. He said that only development will be discussed in the elections.
