THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM local committee member K Sreekandan, who is contesting as a rebel candidate in Ulloor, has been expelled from the party. The party's action comes after he decided to contest as an independent. Sreekandan had objected to the candidacy in Ulloor. He then informed the media that he was willing to contest as an independent candidate.

Liju is the CPM candidate in Ulloor. Minister V Sivankutty had responded that there would be some negative words in a big political party. Sreekandan has been a member of the Ulloor local committee since 2008. He also worked as the former bureau chief of the CPM mouthpiece in the capital. Sreekandan had sharply criticized CPM leader Kadakampally Surendran. "Kadakampally lied. After first giving instructions to get ready, he made someone else the candidate. I was told to get ready to go to a wedding?" was Sreekandan's response.

Sreekandan responded to the media about the party action against him. He said that he had earlier requested to be removed from the local committee. "The activities in Ulloor are not being carried out according to the party's methods. Kadakampally Surendran's dictatorship is going on here. There has been no action from the state leadership against this. It is customary to expel from the party those disliked by Kadakampally Surendran," said Sreekandan.
