MUMBAI: The Indian cricket team for the ODI series against South Africa was announced on Sunday. Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the team, while a new captain was announced to replace the injured Shubman Gill. Senior player KL Rahul will lead India in the three-match series and was announced as the captain. The replacement comes due to the injury suffered by Captain Gill during the first Test against South Africa. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer was also out of contention after suffering a serious injury during the Australia tour.
The first match of the series will be in Ranchi on November 30. The second match will be in Raipur on December 3, and the final ODI in Visakhapatnam on December 6. Shubman Gill, who is undergoing treatment for a neck injury, is likely to miss the ODI series against South Africa as well as the T20 series.
It is reported that the vice-captain of the ODI team, Shreyas Iyer, will return for the series against New Zealand in January.
