
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Activist Rahul Easwar was arrested for making scoffing remarks at a survivor of a sexual assault case. The action was taken on a complaint filed by a woman who faced cyber abuse. Rahul was arrested by the cyber police under a non-bailable section. The woman had filed a complaint with the police yesterday, alleging cyber-attacks following her complaint against Rahul Mamkootathil MLA for alleged sexual assault.
Earlier, after being summoned to the AR camp for questioning, Rahul Easwar was taken into police custody. After questioning, he was taken to the cyber police station. The woman submitted the URL of the posts made by four people, including Rahul Easwar.
The URL includes posts by Congress leader Sandeep Varier and two other women revealing her identity. The investigation team has been instructed to take district-wise action against those who abused the woman through social media and conduct a special investigation.
The cyber police took action based on a complaint filed by the woman, citing that her personal information had been disclosed.
Rahul was taken into custody from his residence at 5 pm on Sunday and taken to Police Training College in Nandavanam AR Camp where he was questioned for about four hours. The arrest was recorded at 9 pm. Rahul's mobile phone was seized. A medical examination was conducted at the General Hospital.
A case has also been registered against Congress leader Sandeep Varier, Mahila Congress Pathanamthitta District Secretary Ranjitha Pulikkan, Advocate Deepa Joseph, and a vlogger from Palakkad. Sandeep Varier responded that he will fight the case legally.
A case was registered at the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police Station after the woman came with a complaint.
