NEW DELHI: Major crisis at IndiGo. Around 200 flights were cancelled in the country yesterday alone. Airports including Delhi and Mumbai were unusually busy. Pilot shortage, flight duty scheduling, and technical issues were cited as the reasons. More than 100 flights were cancelled on Tuesday as well. Passengers were inconvenienced by the continuous delays and cancellations of some flights.
IndiGo said that operations have been disrupted for the past two days. The company apologised for the inconvenience customers experienced. Several flights have been delayed and some cancelled in the past few days due to technical issues and airport congestion. IndiGo added that operations will return to normal as soon as possible.
IndiGo operates over 2,200 flights a day. According to government data on Tuesday, IndiGo's on-time performance has fallen by 35 per cent. More than 1,400 flights were delayed. The crisis is reportedly due to a shortage of staff, including pilots, following the revised flight duty time limitation norms. Several flights have been cancelled due to the unavailability of cabin crew. Some flights are reported to have been delayed by up to eight hours.
