HYDERABAD: A youth was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend’s relatives after calling him home on the pretext of discussing marriage. The victim, Jyoti Shravan Sai, was a second-year Computer Science and Engineering student at St. Peter’s Engineering College in Maisammaguda. According to reports, the murder happened because Shravan refused to end the relationship despite repeated warnings.

Ameenpur Circle Inspector Naresh said that Shravan was in a relationship with 19-year-old Sreeja from Isukabavi in Beeramguda. However, Sreeja’s family strongly opposed the relationship. Her relatives had repeatedly warned Shravan to stay away from her.

On the day of the incident, Sreeja’s parents called Shravan to their house. When he arrived, Sreeja’s mother and others began to assault him. They attacked him brutally using a cricket bat. Shravan suffered a severe head injury and fractures in his leg and ribs. He was taken to a private hospital in Kukatpally, but he died there.

Ameenpur Police have registered a murder case against Sreeja’s family members. Investigators recovered the cricket bat from Sreeja’s house. Shravan’s body has been sent for a postmortem. Police said a detailed investigation is underway, and they are checking if more people were involved in the murder.
