THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister and CPM leader Kadakampally Surendran has launched a scathing attack on Opposition Leader V D Satheesan. In a Facebook post, Kadakampally said Satheesan had proved himself to be a politician “without even a trace of truth.” The remarks come after Satheesan accused Kadakampally of involvement in the Sabarimala gold theft case, following which Kadakampally filed a defamation suit.

Kadakampally said false reports were being circulated regarding the defamation petition. He said he shared his lawyer’s statement on Facebook and in media groups to clarify what had actually transpired in court. He also questioned Satheesan for dragging his name into the controversy and challenged him to produce the evidence he claims to possess before the court.

Kadakampally’s lawyer denied media reports stating that the former minister had asked the court to issue directions preventing Satheesan from calling him a “gold thief” in connection with the Sabarimala case. In the defamation petition, Kadakampally has sought a direction restraining Satheesan from repeating the allegations, or alternatively, an order barring him from making such statements. A separate petition seeking the same relief was also filed. Kadakampally’s lawyer, Rajagopalan Nair, said Satheesan’s counsel informed the court that a response would be submitted after consulting with his client.

There were also reports claiming that Kadakampally told the court he was unable to sleep peacefully at home following the allegations and had sought a direction asking Satheesan not to refer to him as a gold thief. However, Rajagopalan Nair clarified that no such submission was made before the Thiruvananthapuram Third Sub Court.
